Cinco de Mayo will soon be here. Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for “the fifth of May,” and naturally this holiday is held on May 5th every year. Do you know why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo? It is a Mexican holiday and according to Wikipedia, is called El Dia de la Batella de Puebla “The Day of the Battle of Puebla.” In the U.S.A., the holiday celebrates Mexican pride and the freedom and democracy from the first years of the American Civil War. In Puebla, Mexico, the holiday celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French during the Battle of the Puebla on May 5th 1862.
Many celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a party or celebration. There are even some fun events themed to Cinco de Mayo that happen around the world – unique, fun and one of a kind – just like Cinco de Mayo! Near Vancouver, Canada, a sky-diving club has an annual Cinco de Mayo skydiving event. In the Caribbean (Cayman Islands), a Cinco de Mayo air guitar competition is held each year. On the island of Malta, people toast Cinco de Mayo with Mexican beer. And Brisbane, Australia has a Mexican Festival each year to celebrate this fun holiday. You too, can hold a fun celebration or party for Cinco de Mayo for your friends and family they’ll never forget!

Decorate a Cinco de Mayo Party with Flair and Style
One of the most fun things about a Cinco de Mayo party is that you’ll find decorating is great fun. Cinco de Mayo decorations are colorful and bright. Try using bright and pretty colors like red, yellow, orange and green for your tabletop and decorations.
Some worry that bright colors can be overwhelming. When bright colors are your decoration theme, they are very complimentary and fun. Everyone has a different style and taste, and some may prefer to use lots of balloons, streamers and other decorations – and others will use less. There is no “perfect” way to decorate, simply try to create pleasing patterns with your balloons, streamers and other decorations. Put bunches of balloons in the corners, in groups of three, five or seven in a variety of bright colors. Criss cross streamers in different colors across the party room ceiling.
